I had a wonderful play date with some craft friends last night. We worked on some projects together and enjoyed a glass of wine. I was anxious to try my hands at bottle art after taking Cristina Zinnia Galliher's class A Textured Life this summer.
Layer upon layer of paper, cheesecloth, gauze, lace and paint were added to get this depth and texture. I already had piles of dyed cheesecloth and lace so this was the perfect project for me.
I decided on a Christmas image for my first bottle. It is October 1st after all! It is right around the corner. As with most things, you just get better each time you try. I'm already working on a few more today! This is just way too much fun!
I love the twisted rusty wire at the top and all the fibers and dangles. If you would like to learn more about bottle art and the techniques used to achieve this kind of texture and layering, visit Zinnia's blog. You will enjoy your time there. She has several other classes she offers too...all online. More projects and techniques to share this week. Stay tuned! xoxo
very interesting.

ReplyDeleteVery neat! And thanks for the link! I bought some old bottles yesterday that I thought would be good for putting a seashell on top! You have wonderful idea, too! I'm so relaxed when I drink wine I'm not sure how creative I would be though! ♥
ReplyDeletelovely and thanks for the link to her site.
ReplyDeleteHi, Vicki, this is different for me. I have to expand my horizons! I usually stick to fabrics, but I see that there are so many other crafts to learn.
ReplyDeleteThese bottles are so pretty. It looks like fun and fast to do, too. I agree on the wine part, I'd be knocked out!
(it's only because I don't drink, tho I used to like a glass while I cooked dinner!)

Love the bottle Vicki, aren't they just so addicting? I could make oodles of them but so far I have just done three. So much fun. I created one with doing all 4 sides of a bottle for the French Inspiration swap. I was fun and came out very fun. I'm going to make more for sure! Hugs and I love it! Marilou
ReplyDeleteSo is that the empty wine bottle? ;o) Truly - love it - the image is perfect for your wonderful embellishments....Love anything and everything to do with aged cheesecloth (and wine!) Smiles, Hugs & Wishes for a Wonderful Week ~ Robin

Vicki this is gorgeous work!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a bottle of 'Christmas Magic'
thanks for sharing, love this
It's beautiful, but be warned-there are certain bottle artists out there who think they have invented not only this process but the wheel.
ReplyDeleteThey will try to publicly shame you and call you out for "stealing" their ideas. Don't let them scare you, you are too wonderful of an artist for that sort of grade school nonsense.
This looks like fun and it so happends I just found a box of old bottles too!
ReplyDeletecute idea!!!

That bottle looks almost fairytale-like! So pretty - and what a fun transformation, Vicki! :)
