Garden Gate Wall Art

I have a confession to make. I've been hiding an old metal garden gate in the back of my minivan. One of my girlfriends busted me last week. She was driving a local road and came up behind me. The next thing I know she's on my phone, "Is that a garden gate in the back of your car! Is that for your studio?!"  Isn't that funny? I thought my husband was going to think I was crazy so I left it in the van until we finished moving in the furniture first. I brought her inside this weekend and showed the family. I think they like her! She's going on the wall in the picture. The family shots will be relocated.  I can't wait to use her as my inspiration board.  I'm sure I will clip, tie and hang all kinds of fun things to her. What should I do about the color? I'm thinking she needs a nice coat of rusty brown? Anyone think she should stay green? I think it would be way too hard to strip the paint off and go au natural. I would LOVE your input. I hope you have a terrific weekend. I'm going to link my new little garden gate wall art up to the following parties this week -

  1. I have a gate just like that in my garage! I found it along the side of the road on trash day. Well of course I couldn't just keep on driving by, could I? Not exactly sure what I'll do with it just yet. Can't wait to see yours hanging on the wall!

  2. Hello Vicki!
I love the gate!!!! I need to get a bigger car so when I see something I want I can just load it in my car:=)
I am not a fan of green but I think I like the green it gives the rest of your things a splash of color. Whatever you do I think will be great!!! I can't wait to see it on your wall.

  3. Hi Vicki, sounds like you have some great ideas for decorating your studio! Can't wait to see how it all comes together!! I like the gate the way it is, but it's your house!! Good luck, Julie

  6. My favorite color is green so I am leaning towards keeping it as is, hard to say without being right there to see your other accent pieces.
I am sure it will look wonderful however you choose to decorate it.
have fun can't wait to see what you do.

  7. i love it and would NOT paint it...

  8. I would say paint it a creamy white, but it looks like your walls are tan or gold, I can't tell so the rusty brown would probably look the best! Can't wait to see it after you get it up! Hope you have a wonderful week!

  11. I wish it had been FREE! I did have to pay for her. I had been looking for a gate or bed springs for this room for several months. Got her on sale. You know I have a chippy green step ladder about the same color that could come live in this room to help balance the green? Hmmm...green or rusty brown. I'm love rich earth tone colors as you can see (I'm Pottery Barnish...just made that up) but only use a splash of color here and there. I have a green wall in that room that will be softened by some cream drapes soon so green might work. Keep the advice coming!

  13. I love the gate! It's awesome! I think the gate would be cool if it were green with may some rusty areas on it. That way, you'd get hte best of both!...the true color and then vintage it up with the "Vicki Rust". :) Whatever you end up doing with it, I'm sure it will be wonderful!

  14. That will look so cute in the room. I like Candy's idea of leaving it green and adding some rusty areas.

  15. It wouldn't do any harm in hanging the gate as is (green). As women we have the accepted trait of changing our mind. You could take it back down for the instant presto color change. I am looking forward to seeing the end result!

  16. How neat! I'm sure you will make it FUN! Love things that are unique! Cute...you being busted! heehee! ♥

  17. You know , you could add a little rust in spots and let the green show through , the color is pretty. Just a thought !

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ooh that will look great!! You could add some rusty brown as well and then chip it up some. I know that it will be beautiful whatever you decide! Your post was cute about being busted!! :) My hubby looks at me weird when I come with things like that! :)

  19. Green is a little too perfect for me.
How about just some 'faux' rust (paint)on it here and there? no need to strip it. Or you could try the vinegar salt mix to see if it will rust. I use it on everything!
    (need instructions??)

cannot wait to see it all up and dreamafied!

  20. That's a hilarious story Vicki! I'm the same way...I hide things in the trunk of my car then sneak it in the house when no one is around (he!he!). Your garden gate is worth it though, can't wait how you transform it.

Happy New Year to you! Stopping by from Feathered Nest Friday. Happy weekend!

  21. I LOVE it Vick! This whole project is very fun to watch unfold. You just keep revealing exciting new things. It's like reality t.v. for me...but a million times better b/c vintage and art is involved! I'm torn about the color. I really like that the green is original but then again the color has to work in the room. I might sit on it a bit a see how the room comes together. Cannot wait to see what's next!

  22. I got to see this little gem up close and personal, great find and I love what your going to do with it! Like I told you, I'm partial to its original green color and I think whatever you put on it will pop and really stand out! Whatever you decide I'm sure will look fabulous!!! :) ♥

  26. I have a similar gate - it's outside right now & frozen in the ground - I'm curious to see what you end up doing. I'm going to leave mine rusty & spray with poly of some sort. I like your idea for re-use!

  27. The gate is going to be such and interesting accessory to the room, can't wait to see the finished look. I love the idea of the rusty paint... I'm going to have to look into that for my daughter...she's all about..the old rusty crusty look. Sounds like it takes anything and makes it look old. Your room is coming along perfectly... Please stop over and visit me... I'd love to have you as a new friend. Paint paint paint. xoso Sandy O
