Master Bedroom Redo!

We recently turned our bedroom into the master retreat we deserve, and I could not be happier! Thanks to Bonetti Interiors for being such great listeners and helping making our vision come true. All photos are also courtesy of the Bonetti's. I've not done my own shoot yet!

This sitting area is now one of my favorite spots in the house. We had really neglected our master for a number of  years. The rest of our house is filled with lots of cozy furniture, pillows and some of my vintage finds. Something more important always seemed to come along before I got around to the bedroom.  I didn't even have curtains in here until the remodel. What a difference! I wasn't ready to paint the walls but adding all this cream and white really is cozy.  I might go a dark gray when it is time to paint.

Guess who else likes it?! Both basset hounds.  Zoey was too busy hiding from the Bonetti Sisters but Shelby was happy to try out the bed.  The bench at the foot of the bed is so she can climb in at night.  The girls used a wool rug for some color and durability on the bench. I loved it.  I had mentioned how much I love the ottomans and benches I'm seeing covered in what looks like a wool rug.  Of course, I didn't like the price of these...four digits! This works for me.
That is my mom on a pony in that cloche. Love this picture of her and included it on my side table so I can see it everyday now.  Hope you enjoyed the tour! We have a great TV wall too now with some fun shelves.  The picture did not due it justice. I'll have to post one soon though.  Hope you are having a great week.  I'm linking to:

Crafternoon at Becky's

Meet Becky! A few months ago, she sent me an email to say hello. We quickly realized we live just a few miles from each other, love so many of the same things and have many of the same blog friends! Becky is a hoot. She is a writer, home stylist, fabulous cook and hostess, artist and collector of some great junk!  Becky is so talented in many ways, but entertaining is definitely top on the list. Thank you for a wonderful afternooon. Can't wait to get invited back.

Would you like to take a peak at her beautiful home?  She was so gracious to let me photograph a few of my favorite things during our visit. My photos do not do it justice but here are a few shots to share. You may recognize goodies from some of your favorite shops and blogs!

Take a look at this gorgeous table she set.  She had a cute banner craft for us to make, all the supplies and goodies we needed and this wonderful gift basket filled with some of my favorite colors (requested in advance) and textures!  Is she amazing or what? This girl needs a blog. Don't you agree?
Becky, Shelley, Jessica, Carol and Ruth - thank you for a great afternoon. Visit Shelley's blog Sweet Pea Home here for more great photos and links to the other guests websites. She got some great shots too. I unfortunately, had to leave a bit early for an Xmas party. So nice to get to know each of you ladies. Looking forward to the next one!  Hope everyone is having a great week. I'll share some Christmas decor around the house with you this week.  Be back soon!

Vintage Inspired work spaces

Today, I have a guest post written by Susi with Arcadian Lighting. Visit their website and cool blog for more information about interior design, lighting design, and beautiful light fixtures. Enjoy!

Using vintage and antique finds can turn a home office into a beautiful work space. Here are 8 examples of vintage inspired work spaces that cleverly incorporate flea market finds and function to make beautiful work spaces.

A few simple elements can make a beautiful workspace. A farmhouse style table works as a desk below reclaimed shutters that enclose a message board.

A repurposed mirror or picture frame makes an over scale bulletin board in this charming vintage feeling work space. Love the aqua color that ties the room together. So cheerful!

A work space can also be a crafting space. Tools and supplies are charmingly stored in vintage suitcases while vintage illustrations decorate the wall.

A rescued and painted vintage desk and French style side chair painted in the same color create a charming, feminine work space. Every work area needs at least one good light fixture and preferably more. A vintage lamp completes the vintage charm of this work space.

This tiny workspace is beyond charming. The vintage desk chair and other found and repurposed items are cleverly put to work: love the drop leaf wall desk; love the bedsprings (from a crib?) turned into a message center.

Vintage roll top desks and writing desks easily accommodate today's laptop based home offices. With nooks for storing bits of paper and other desk accessories, these old fashioned desks can create a beautiful work space.

If your work space or home office doesn't have a lovely view, create one with art. Art can turn any space into a beautiful space. Interesting lamps can liven up a desk as well.

A room filled with objects you love will create a beautiful space where you won't mind working. A long table or vintage desk and functional lighting, like the pendant lights in this room, are the basis for any good work space.

Pottery Barn cubby gets another redo

The PB cubby came in handy for my mother in law's recent birthday party. I filled it with black and white photos of her growing up.  We really had fun selecting the pictures and used mostly flower frogs and old clothes pins to display them.  I included an old vintage camera in the center.  Kara and I made a small sign from cardstock, dictionary pages and lace that read, "Happy Birthday Ama Jean."

Sorry for the flash. My kitchen is in the center of the house. The cubby hangs on the kitchen wall. We have very little natural light in here. I added "80" to an old clipboard and at the last minute made a party hat to add some height. I used light gel medium to glue vintage book pages and lace to a paper mache cone. There's a little clump of tinsel at the top. That's an old car horn sitting on top too. Just think of it as a huge party favor!

Now that the party is over, I guess I'll have to redo the cubby again! I'm thinking a 4th of July or summer theme.  What do you think?  I hope you are having a good weekend.  Until next time....xoxo

Is gardening just crafting outside?

My husband had a great idea to sell me on working in the yard. He told me working in the garden is like "crafting" (the only way he knows how to describe what I do) outside.  There is some truth in this.
When selecting what to use in our backyard garden we certainly used some basic art fundamentals like - composition (where should we put things), dominance (creating focal points or "heavy" areas) and aesthetics (will these be visually appealing together).  Before he gave me a speech on lines, color and texture...I just got in the car, and we were on the way to Home Depot. lol

Zoey didn't care about art elements and needed no motivation (only her doggy door) to head out back with us. She was just glad we were out playing in her domain.
Shelby took a moment to show us that the yellow Iris plants feel really good on your back when you walk super slow.  We call this her therapy.
This is another one of our less demanding garden variety basset hounds.  This one is very low maintenance compared to the other two above!  Let's see what else we can find...

It has taken several weekends to clean things up after the hard freezes this past winter. We've added some fun elements and lots of new pots this year. Let's just hope we can keep up with it when the hot Florida summer days arrive...wait they might already be here. Today was 93.  Wish me luck with my herbs. I'm growing rosemary, basil, thyme and mint in containers. Let's go in on the porch and take a look.

We really love to sit out here at night. Even on the warmest of days, the afternoon thunder showers usually cool things off enough to enjoy our screened patio. I think the patio will help protect the containers a bit from the heat and offer some much needed shade. I grew basil last year successfully. We'll see how things go.

I hope you enjoyed the tour around our backyard and the patio. I hope things are warming up where you are in the world so you can enjoy the outdoors. I know many of my blog friends are still waiting to plant their vegetable and flower gardens due to cold weather. I'm praying none of you are also dealing with flooding or tornadoes this week.

Thanks for stopping by today.  I had a birthday on Sunday and received some fun gifts from my girlfriends. I'll share those in my next post.  Until then...xoxo.  ps - linking up to Cottage Flora at Fishtail Cottage.   Go see all the dreamy garden posts!
