Chocolate Roo and PicMonkey

Is it me or does the title to this post sound a little like a Disney movie? lol  Take a look at this beauty.  My sister-in-law, Mary, gave me this delicious chocolate rooster last week as a thank you for dog sitting.  Looks yummy, huh?

Anyone else devastated that Picnik is going out of business?  I love storing my photos on Picasa and the quick upload option to Picnik for photo editing is a breeze.  Well, after next month that won't be an option, so I did try a new photo editing site today.  The new site is Pic Monkey and it is very similar to Picnik. Try it...you'll like it.  Here's a photo that I played with today.
So easy.  The site is free for now.  I'm happy to have another quick photo editing site for blogging.  I hope everyone is having a great week. I'm enjoying making the rounds again to say hello and catch up.  Thanks for visiting.  xoxo

Have you seen this Roo?

Karen at the Graphics Fairy posted this gorgeous print last week.  I saved it for a future project or wall hanging.  I'm guessing by that bright red comb and the obvious swagger, this is no hen.  Thanks, Karen, for this wonderful print and all the others over on your blog.  If you are looking for inspiration for a project or instant art, be sure to visit The Graphics Fairy.  Look for my one year blogiversary giveaway to be posted this week!  Stay tuned! xoxo

Gifts from friends

Hello everyone! I had a little birthday last month and my dear, sweet, vintage loving, mixed media art making friends Jodi, Kelley and Kim (girls I put you in ABC order...lol) each gave me something special to mark the day.  These girls really know me. Whether it is sharing a special find or making a handmade treasure, it makes me feel like a kid again when we exchange gifts.  This adorable tag above was made by Kim.  With it was this little cutie-
I had seen this on Etsy. Kim hijacked my favorites and found it. Thanks, Kim! I love it and looks great in the kitchen.
This beauty came from Kelley. Kelley and I have a mutual blog friend, Petite Michelle Louise.  We both love Michelle's blog and her fantastic Etsy shop!  One of my favorite finds in the shop would be Michelle's altered door knobs. Kelley got me one! Isn't this perfection?!

How about these two darling gifts? They are from Jodi and her daughter Sydney (Kara's BFF).  I can't stand how cute this little bucket is on my back porch. This hen pin cushion was a real surprise. Sydney also got me a gift. Makes my heart melt that she found this and thought of me.

I had another sweet surprise in the mail. I fun filled package of little paper pieces, hat pins and organza bags from sweet June at Lina Beas.  June, I have already used half the envelope for teacher appreciation week! I dug in right away. THANK YOU!  Guess what? June has a giveaway here if you'd like to stop by and enter.  Take a look -

Life is better with friends at your side.  So glad to call these girls and each of you who visit, my friends. Hope you are having a great week and a safe weekend. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Last Giveaway of April WINNER!

Congrats to Vicki from Paper Squirrel for winning my final giveaway of April!  Sounds like her mom has a rooster themed kitchen, so I could not be happier that her post was selected. She wants to give this as a Mother's Day gift. I think that is so sweet.  Vicki - email me your full name and address. I will mail this tomorrow so that you have it in time.  I hope you will stop by and visit Vicki at her blog. Here's one of her latest projects -
Isn't this beautiful? She has a tutorial posted right now so head over for a look. I would go ahead and give her a follow. I think we are going to see some really fun projects from this gal who has crafty in her blood!

Thanks to everyone that played along this month. I've really enjoyed it.  If I have not been by your blog for a visit yet, please be patient with me.  The entries were a bit overwhelming for this working mom!  I've got some fun posts coming up this week - pictures of b-day presents and lots of pictures of a new store that I visited in Orlando.  Until then...xoxo!

Last Giveaway this month!!

Hello my friends! Here she is...the last giveaway this month...an altered whisk broom.  If you follow my blog, you know I like to alter things. I can be a little quirky in my selection.  I love the texture of old whisk brooms. I think this would look great hanging on a wall in your kitchen or on a shelf with your favorite dishes.

Many of you have shared that you collect roosters or love to use them in your home decor.  Well, here's a one of a kind item to add to the mix.

Giveaway month continues!

Good Sunday morning to you all! This is my 100th post today! Thank you for joining me. A month of giveaways continues this week here at Rusty Rooster Vintage.  Remember a new weekly giveaway will be announced every Sunday in April to celebrate my blogging milestones and to help me make a special announcement later in the month.  I changed the order of my giveaway items so that this Easter themed gift will arrive to the lucky winner in time for the holiday!  So, that said, let's take a closer look at this week's giveaway.
You see these little altered tins all over blog land and Etsy.  I was inspired to make a few of my own when I found these flocked chicks at our local antique store.
I glittered the edges and ran an embellished wire to create a "basket" for the little chicks nest to sit inside.  I added some pearls and some vintage lace to the handle on this one.  The other two are embellished with different size pearls.  I love the yummy green moss. The moss and chick are not permanently adhered to the tin, so you can change out the basket throughout the year with other items.
The winner will also receive this vintage Easter postcard and holder.  The holder was made by my friend Kelley of Gongy and Squish.  I added a bit of vintage lace you can use in your next creation and a mother of pearl button.  The postcard has beautiful handwriting on the back. Take a peek. Isn't it gorgeous?

Giveaway time!!

Ready for a month of giveaways? Well, you are in the right place! Every Sunday in April, I will post a weekly giveaway.   Oh, and there's a twist...there is a rooster theme throughout the month! Well, I like to say "rooster with a side of rusty and vintage." Ready to see more of this week's giveaway above?
Included in this week's giveaway is this adorable Breakstone's two pound cheese box with dovetail hinges. Great for creating a vignette or storing your supplies. She's in great shape and could be yours!
Also inside, you'll see that I've made you some handmade rooster tags for Easter and Spring decorating. These are heavily distressed and machine sewn. They were made with some vintage book pages and lace. Double click to take a better look.
These little lamb ornaments are also included. They are from one of my favorite local prim artists and smell delicious!
This vintage chicken cookie cutter could be yours too.  Isn't this cute? I just love to frame these, use them as magnets or display them around the kitchen in jars.
And last but not least, these altered wooden Easter eggs. I painted, glittered and added some cheesecloth and lace to these little eggs so that you can use them in your decorating.  You will receive both.
