Sometimes you have to stretch your creative abilities a bit! Of course, posting them on your blog and sharing with the world wide web is a whole different thing! Gulp...Recently, I've been using all my junk and bits and pieces to make collage and assemblage projects. The inspiration for this assemblage project was a photograph of this adorable little girl's face. I created the rest of her with spare parts. For example, her dress is a broken china plate and her wings a rusty vintage drawer pull. Her chubby cheeks and huge eyes reminded me so much of my daughter, who is growing by leaps and bounds every day.
As the piece came together, it reminded me so much of a little fairy. My daughter still has a fairy door in her room and was a fairy expert just a year or so ago. She studied books on fairies for countless numbers of hours. She knew what kinds of fairies there were in the world, where they lived, and what attracted them...something shiny or something sweet. She knew how to draw them near to her.
This sweet little project will be a constant reminder to me of the special time in my young daughter's life when she "believed."
I'm going to link up this little project to
White Wednesday over at Faded Charm Cottage. I have also linked to

ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely post. Of course, we all believe in fairies. I'm sure I've seen one hiding in the garden!
ReplyDeletethat is beautiful, I love it. I love the pearls and softness of the lace paired with the rustic metal and rough texture of the burlap. And the sweet story to go with it, that's going to be so special to your daughter as she grows.

Vicki, this mix of textures, the softness of the fabrics in oposition to the toughness of the rusty metal makes an exquisite art work. Congrats!

ReplyDeleteVicki,
ReplyDeleteThis at first gave me a huge smile!! Then when I read about your daughter and her love of fairies, it reminded me of my daughter when she decided "there just isn't any magic left" after the truth of Christmas set in. So my husband and I went to work to bring the magic back and put up glittery snowflakes all over her room while she was sleeping christmas eve. I hope your daughter always has a fairy door! What a wonderful reminder your assemblage is!

ReplyDeleteI think that is just beautiful! Love it and the inspiration behind the project is wonderful. Lisa
Hi Vicki,
ReplyDeleteI wanted to tell you that I learned something on a video a long time ago...It may be something you want to do too..See I was doing pieces that took hundreds of hours, so the woman said to put everything where you want it (for a collage) and then, take a picture...that way if you take things away, you will know what the original looked like..it was very helpful! Just thought I'd pass that on in case you need that for something because it helps even if I am trying to decide 2 different ways of doing something before I settle on a final layout...I thought that was great advice!!!
I did big pieces for my community that were for all the govt. agencies as a gift after Hurricane Katrina...It was a 6 month project and that suggestion by that artist sure came in handy!!
(((Hugs)) from me,
Cindy
That is great advice for everyone! I'm so glad you posted it. I've been known to do that. I'll take a photo to help me remember how I constructed something or to send to a girlfriend to ask which one she likes better. Love it. Thanks for sharing!
